Free Crochet Pattern Basic Granny Square

The basic granny square is of course THE granny square for beginners. That is why in this case I chose to write out and film the pattern beginner-friendly. I don’t use abbreviations. Because if you’re just starting to crochet, it’s already difficult enough. You will also see parts of the crochet chart in the video, this will help you to get acquainted with the crochet symbols.

Start with: chain 6. Work 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch to form a ring.

Round 1

Crochet around the ring.

Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet). 2 double crochet. Chain 2. 3 double crochet, chain 2 repeat between * and * 2 more times.

Close the round by working a slip stitch in the third chain stitch. Turn your work.

Round 2

Crochet in the chain spaces of the previous round.

Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet). 2 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet (in same space). *Chain 1, 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet in next chain space.* Repeat between * and * 2 more times.

Close the round by working a slip stitch in the third chain stitch. Turn your work.

Round 3

Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet). 2 double crochet in first chain space. *3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet into the next space (corner), chain 1, 3 double crochet in next space, chain 1* Repeat between * and * 2 more times.

In the last space: 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet, chain 1. Close the round by working a slip stitch in the third chain stitch. Turn your work.

Round 4

Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet). 2 double crochet in first chain space, chain 1. *3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet into the next space (corner), chain 1, 3 double crochet in next space, chain 1, 3 double crochet en 1 chain in the next space. * Repeat between * and * 2 more times.

In next space: 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet, 1 losse. In last space 3 double crochet, chain 1. Close the round by working a slip stitch in the third chain stitch. Fasten off.
