Free Crochet Pattern Bobble Baby Bib
When there’s a baby in the house, bibs are a must-have. But why settle for store-bought when you can crochet something adorable and personal? This handmade bib is not only practical, it’s also a quick and thoughtful gift for any new parent. This design features two buttonholes, so you can adjust the fit to suit the little one perfectly.

Materials
- Sport weight cotton yarn – I used Scheepjes Catona and needed exactly 50 grams (1 skein), To be safe, you should be fine with one skein plus a bit of leftover yarn.For the pink baby bib, I used color 518 (Marshmallow) and for the blue/green color 528 (Silver Blue).
- Crochet hook 3.0 mm
- Button 20 mm
- Needle and scissors

Stitches and Abbreviations
- Chain (ch)
- Slip Stitch (sl st)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Half Double Crochet (hdc)
- Bobble (bob)
Special Stitch – The Bobble Stitch – Bob
5x into the same stitch: Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull the yarn through 2 loops on your hook. Another way of explaining this part of the stitch: Work five double crochets into the same stitch, leaving each one unfinished.
Once you’ve done this 5 times, you’ll end up with 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over one last time and pull through all 6 loops to complete the bobble. Push the bobble to the back of your work.
Measurements
The base of my bib, without the neckband, measures about 21 cm (8¼ inch) wide by 20 cm (7⅞ inch) high. Would you like a different size bib? You can adjust the width of the bib by working a multiple of 6 chains more or fewer. To change the height, simply continue repeating rows 2 – 5.

ch 42
Row 1
1 hdc in the 3rd ch (the first 2 ch count as 1 hdc), 1 hdc in each ch to the end of the row. Turn.
Row 2
Ch 2 (count as 1 hdc). 1 hdc in the 2nd stitch of the row. *1 bob in the next stitch, 1 hdc in the next 5 stitches.* Repeat between * and * until you have 3 stitches left. End the row with 1 bob and 2 hdc (the last hdc is worked into the turning ch of the previous row). Turn.
Row 3
Ch 2 (count as 1 hdc), 1 hdc in the 2nd stitch of the row, 1 hdc in each stitch to the end of the row (the last hdc is worked into the ch of the previous row). Turn.
Row 4
Ch 2 (count as 1 hdc), 1 hdc in the 2nd stitch, 1 hdc in the next 3 stitches. *1 bob in the next stitch, 1 hdc in the next 5 stitches*. Repeat between * and * to the end of the row. The last hdc is worked into the ch of the previous row. Turn.
Row 5
Ch 2 (count as 1 hdc), 1 hdc in the 2nd stitch of the row, 1 hdc in each stitch to the end of the row (the last hdc is worked into the ch of the previous row). Turn.
Rows 6 – 31
Continue repeating rows 2 to 5 until row 31 is completed.
Rows 32 – 63
Ch 2, (count as 1 hdc), 1 hdc in the next 6 stitches. Turn.
Row 64
Ch 2, 1 hdc in the next stitch, ch 2, skip to stitches, 1 hdc in the next 3 stitches. Turn.
Row 65
Ch 2, 1 hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in the chain space, 1 hdc in the next 2 stitches. Turn.
Row 66
Ch 2, 1 hdc in the next 6 stitches. Turn.
Row 67
Ch 2, 1 hdc in the next stitch, ch 2, skip to stitches, 1 hdc in the next 3 stitches. Turn.
Row 68
Ch 2, 1 hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in the chain space, 1 hdc in the next 2 stitches. Turn.
Row 69
Ch 1, sc all around your work. Along the sides of the rows made with hdc, work 1 sc per row.
Keep an eye on your work to make sure it doesn’t start pulling, if it does, you can occasionally add an extra single crochet. This also applies to the corners.
Once you’ve worked all the way around, join the round with a slip stitch and fasten off.
