Free Crochet Pattern Harmony Hat

Free Crochet Pattern Harmony Hat

After finishing the Harmony Scarf, I had just enough yarn left to design a matching hat. And honestly, who doesn’t love a nice matching set? I went for a double brim to keep your forehead and ears extra cozy. The slightly open stitches at the top make sure it doesn’t get too warm, so it’s comfy in all kinds of weather.
The pattern includes a companion video (with a chart) where you can see how the special stitches are made.

This crochet pattern is an original design by Lisa Geerts from Free-Crochet-Patterns.com. Measurements

With the brim folded up, the hat measures 23 cm (about 9 in) in height and 24 cm (about 9.5 in) in width. The circumference is roughly 48 cm (about 19 in), which fits a small women’s size.
If you’d like to make the hat wider, just make sure the number of rows you crochet in the rib stitch is a multiple of 3.

Harmony Stitch – tutorial video with crochet chart

I’ve made a video that shows the stitch used for this hat. In the video I’m not working in the round, so just keep that in mind while you watch. Still, it’s a great way to see the slightly trickier stitches up close, which is why I’m sharing it here for extra support.

Crochet Pattern Harmony Hat

Special stitch – Puff Stitch – Puff

Step 1

4x: Yarn over, insert your hook through the stitch and pull up a loop.

Step 2

Yarn over and pull the yarn through all (9) loops on your hook.

We’ll start by crocheting the brim of the hat. Begin with a foundation chain of 26 chains.

Row 1

1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each of the next chains until the end of the row. Turn.

Row 2

ch 1, 1 sc flo in the first stitch, 1 sc flo in each of the next stitches until the end of the row. Turn.

Row 3 – 78

Repeat row 2

My swatch now measures about 48 cm. Want a different size? Make sure the number of rows you crochet is a multiple of 3.

Place the ends of the brim together. Chain 1, then join the two sides with 25 slip stitches, working through all loops of both edges.

Once the hat is finished, you’ll fold the brim up, and the slip stitches you just made will be hidden inside the brim. This means the right side is already facing you.

Top of the Hat

Turn your work a quarter turn. From now on, you’ll crochet in the round, and you won’t turn your work anymore.

Round 79

Round 80

(You should now have 78 dc, including the turning chain, which counts as 1 dc). Make sure the total number of stitches is a multiple of 3)

Finishing

Fasten off, but leave a long tail for sewing the top closed.
Turn your hat inside out.
Sew through the stitches around the top, weaving in and out, and gently pull the yarn every now and then. You’ll see the top of the hat slowly closing as you go. Once you’ve sewn through all the stitches, go back and forth a few more times to secure the top completely. Turn the hat right side out again and it’s all done!

I would love to see how your hat turned out, feel free to send me a message or tag me on social media so I can admire your beautiful work. I can’t wait to see it!
