Free Crochet Pattern Lace Flower Shawl

Material

Approximately 240 grams (1100 meters) of Scheepjes Whirlette in color 859 Rose (fingering weight, 60% cotton / 40% acrylic)
Crochet hook 3.5 mm
Scissors and needle

Measurements

After blocking, the shawl measures 170 x 36 cm (67 x 15 inches)
1 flower measures approximately 4 x 4 cm (1.6 x 1.6 inches). 10 cm (4 inches) equals 6 rows.
Want to adjust the dimensions or use different yarn weight? To make the shawl narrower or wider, simply chain a multiple of 8 more or fewer stitches. You can modify the length by crocheting more or fewer rows.

Yarn over 4 times
Insert your hook into the designated stitch or space.
Yarn over and pull up a loop (You should now have five loops on your hook)
Yarn over and pull through two loops (You’ll now have four loops remaining)
Repeat step 4, continue yarn over, pull through two loops until only one loop remains on your hook.

Chain 85

Row 1

Tr3tog in the 9th chain from the hook, ch 7, tr3tog in the same ch, ch 3, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch. *ch 3, skip 3 ch, tr3tog in next ch, ch 7, tr3tog in the same ch. Ch 3, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch*. Repeat between * and * until the end of the row. Turn.

Row 2

Ch 6 (counts as a triple treble), tr3tog in the top of the first petal of the previous row, ch 4, tr2tog in the 4th chain from the hook, 1 sc in the center of the chain-7 space.

*ch 4. Work a tr8tog in multiple places, starting by working the first 2 (unfinished) tr into the body of the sc just made, work the next 3 (unfinished) tr into the top of the next petal (there are 6 loops on your hook now) and the last 3 (unfinished) tr in the top of the next petal. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all 9 loops. Ch 4, tr2tog in 4th ch from the hook (the center of flower), 1 sc in the chain-7 space*. Keep repeating between * and *.

At the end of the row, work a tr5tog: Ch 4, 2 (unfinished) tr in the body of the sc just made, and 3 (unfinished) tr in the top of the last petal, yarn over and pull the yarn through all 6 loops. 1 tr tr in the 4th ch from the previous row. Turn.

Row 3

Ch 9 (counts as tr tr and ch 3), tr3tog in the center of the first flower (the first stitch). *ch 3, 1 sc in next sc from previous row (between flowers), ch 3, tr3tog in the heart of the next flower, ch 7, tr3tog in the center of the same flower*. Keep repeating between * and *. At the end of the row: ch 3, 1 sc in the sc from the previous row, ch 3, tr3tog in the center of the half flower, ch 3, 1 tr tr in the center of the half flower. Turn.

Row 4

Ch 5, work a tr8tog in multiple places, starting by working the first 2 (unfinished) tr into the 5th chain from the hook, work the next 3 (unfinished) tr into the top of the next petal (there are 6 loops on your hook now) and the last 3 (unfinished) tr in the top of the next petal. Yarn over and pull the yarn through all 9 loops. Ch 4, tr2tog in the 4th ch from the hook (the center of the flower).

*1 sc in the chain-7 space, ch 4, work a tr8tog in multiple places, starting by working the first 2 (unfinished) tr into the body of the sc just made, work the next 3 (unfinished) tr into the top of the next petal (there are 6 loops on your hook now) and the last 3 (unfinished) tr in the top of the next petal. ch 4, tr2tog in 4th chain from hook (center of flower)* Keep repeating between * and *.

At the end of the row work 1 sc into the 4th ch of the previous row. Turn.

Row 5

Ch 4, tr3tog in the center of the 1st flower, ch 7, tr3tog in the center of the same flower. *Ch 3, 1 sc in next sc from previous row (between flowers), ch 3, tr3tog in the heart of the next flower, ch 7, tr3tog in the center of the same flower*. Keep repeating between * and *. At the end of the row: ch 3 and 1 sc into the top of the last petal. Turn.

Keep repeating rows 2-5

until you have a total of 52 rows. I ended the pattern with a repeat of row 4.

Is your shawl finished? Carefully weave in and secure the loose ends. I chose not to add a border, as I felt the design looked best without one. However, feel free to add a border if it suits your style!

For the best result, it’s recommended to block the shawl. I did this by pinning it down onto a yoga mat and spraying it with water. Let it dry completely and voilà, your shawl is ready to wear!
