The block stitch is such a fun stitch to experiment with color combinations, but it also looks great in just 1 color. It is an easy and beginner-friendly stitch. The stitch is great to use for a baby blanket, pillow case or a table runner.

Chain a multiple of 3 + 1

Row 1

1 sc in the 2nd ch, 1 sc in next ch. *ch 2, skip 2 stitches, 1 sc in next ch* repeat between * and * until the end of the row. Work 1 sc in the last stitch of the row. Change color and turn.

Row 2

ch 3, *3 dc in the chain-2 space of the previous row* repeat between * and * until the last stitch. Work 1 dc in the last stitch. Change color and turn.

Row 3

ch 1, 1 sc in the first stitch, 1 sc in the space between the first stitch and the next 3-double crochet group. *ch 2, 1 sc in the space between the next 3-double crochet groups* repeat between* and * until the last stitch. Work 2 single crochet in the space after the last 3-double crochet group. Change color and turn.
