How to crochet the Iris Stitch

Do you want to learn how to crochet the beautiful Iris stitch? If you are a beginner, the Iris stitch is a great stitch to crochet, because it uses only 2 basic stitches. But even if you have been crocheting for a longer time, it is still a stunning stitch to crochet.

The Iris stitch is often used to crochet blankets, but you can for example also use the stitch for an elegant scarf or a table runner. The stitch looks pretty on both the front and the back of your work.

  • The first 3 chains count as 1 double crochet.

Chain a multiple of 4 + 3.

Row 1

Skip 4 chains. Work into the 5th chain: 2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet. *Skip 3 chains, work into the next chain: 2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet*. Repeat between * and * until you have 2 chains left. 1 double crochet into the last chain. Turn.

Row 2

Chain 3. Skip 3 double crochet, work into the chain-1 space of the previous row: 2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet. *Skip 4 double crochet. Work into the chain-1 space of the previous row: 2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet*. Repeat between * and * until you have 3 stitches left. 1 double crochet into the (turning) chain of the previous row. Turn.
