How to Crochet the Open Ripple Stitch
The Open Ripple Stitch is a varied yet beginner-friendly crochet stitch, created by repeating two rows. While it looks very elegant in one color, the ripple really comes to life when you use multiple shades.
This tutorials walks you through the first 3 rows. To keep going, just repeat rows 2 and 3. To begin the Open Ripple Stitch, chain a multiple of 20 + add 4 extra chains.

Chain a multiple of 20 + add 4 extra chains.
Row 1
2 dc into the 4th ch from the hook. *Work 3x: ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in the next ch. Continue with: ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc5tog across the next 5 ch. Work 3x: ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc into the next ch. Continue with: ch 1, skip 1 ch, 5 dc in the next ch*. Repeat between * and * until you have 20 ch left. At the end of the row work 3x: ch 1, skip the next ch, 1 dc into the next ch. Continue with ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc5tog across the next 5 ch. Work 3x: ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc into the next ch. Continue with ch 1, skip 1 ch, 3 dc into the last ch. Turn
Row 2
ch 1, 1 sc into the 1st stitch. Work 1 sc into each dc and 1 sc into each chain space from the previous row. Work the last sc into the turning ch from the previous row. Turn.
Row 3
Ch 3, 2 dc into the first stitch. *Work 3x: ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch. Continue with: ch 1, skip 1 stitch, dc5tog across the next 5 stitches. Work 3x: ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch. Continue with: ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 5 dc into the next stitch*. Repeat between * and * until you have 20 stitches left. When you reach the last 20 stitches of the row, work 3x: ch 1, skip the next stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch. Continue with ch 1, skip 1 stitch, dc5tog across the next 5 stitches. Work 3x: ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc into the next stitch. Continue with: ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 3 dc into the last stitch. Turn.
Keep repeating rows 2 and 3.
