How to Crochet the Tulip Stitch

The Tulip Stitch is the ultimate stitch to crochet in spring! This stitch has one prettier side, where the tulips seem to really pop out.

This tutorial explains 5 rows. You can continue working by repeating rows 2 to 5. For the Tulip stitch, start with a multiple of 3 + 2 stitches + 1 extra chain (or chain a multiple of 3).

Basic stitches used in this tutorial: Chain (ch), Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Popcorn (pc)

Chain a multiple of 3

Row 1 (neutral color)
1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. 1 sc in each of the next ch. Turn.

Row 2 (neutral color)
ch 1, 1 sc in each stitch to the end of the row. Turn and change colors to green.

Row 3 (green)
Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and 1 ch), skip the first 2 stitches, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc (v-stitch) in the next stitch. *Skip 2 stitches, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc (v-stitch) in next stitch.* Repeat between * and * to the last 2 stitches. Ch 1 and 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn and change colors to pink.

Row 4 (pink)
Chain 4 (counts as 1 dc and 1 ch), 1 pc in the chain space of the first v-stitch from the previous row. *ch 2, 1 pc in the chain space of the next v-stitch* repeat between * and * to the last v-stitch. At the end of the row; ch 1 and 1 dc in the 3rd chain of the previous row. Turn and change to the neutral color.

Row 5 (neutral color)
ch 1, 1 sc in the first stitch, 1 sc in the first chain-1 space, *1 sc in the popcorn, 2 sc in the next chain-2 space*, repeat between * and * to the last popcorn. Work 1 sc in the last chain-1 space and 1 sc in the 3rd chain of the previous row. Turn.

Keep repeating rows 2 to 5.
